Solar eclipses are unique celestial events that can be shared by many thousands, if not millions of people. Just such an event will be visible on a path from Texas to New Hampshire on April 8th, 2024. In preparation for this event the Montclair library will present a talk on solar eclipses.
This presentation begins with the basic geometry and anatomy of eclipses, answering the question: why do we have eclipses? This will be followed by a discussion of eclipse predictions and then a history of notable eclipses, eclipse chasers and observations.
The presentation will conclude with a discussion of how to safely view, photograph and prepare for an eclipse event.
