Co-presented with Latinos of Montclair
Children’s author Adriana Erin Rivera reads from her middle grade book “Paloma's Song for Puerto Rico", a story about a 12-year-old girl and her family dealing with Puerto Rico’s historical upheaval in 1898. “Paloma’s Song” is part of the Nuestras Voces series, a collaboration with the Smithsonian Institute’s National Museum of the American Latino, which profiles inspiring characters and honors the joys and challenges of Latinos. Families will enjoy a visual presentation, a performance by the author of an original song from the book, light refreshments, and a Q&A session.
Books will be available for purchase and signing. Co-presented by Latinos of Montclair and Montclair Public Library. This culturally impactful family event is not to be missed!
Registration recommended for updates and reminders.

About the Book
It is 1898, and Paloma lives in Puerto Rico with her Papi, Mami and brother Jorge. They are coffee farmers, and Paloma loves the chickens and fruit trees she helps care for, the song of the coquí frogs and the melodies from Papi’s tiple guitar. But her world changes when war arrives on Puerto Rico’s shores. What will happen to their culture, the island? As Paloma and her family navigate changes they can’t control, they hold tightly to each other and hope for a better future. In diary format, the Nuestras Voces series profiles inspiring characters and honors the joys, challenges, and outcomes of Latino experiences. Created in collaboration with the Smithsonian Institution’s National Museum of the American Latino, Nuestras Voces shares inspiring Latino stories.
