The American Revolution, the several successive revolutions in France, and the Greek struggle to gain independence from Turkey all took place from the later 18th century to the mid-19th, and all stimulated the creation of powerful and dramatic works of art. This class will examine many of those works by such artists as John Trumbull, Jacques-Louis David, Hubert Robert, and Eugène Delacroix in order to understand how their visual components communicated political meanings.
