How did a poor young man, originating from a little-known town of 13,000 people in Mississippi, with little formal music education and no contacts in the music business become, not just the biggest popular star of the 1950s and early 1960s, but an original and creative force that inspired and influenced a whole generation of young musicians that followed?
This course will deal with Elvis' complete career, the people who surrounded him, his major fans, including Bob Dylan, The Beatles and Paul Simon, his incredible highs, with eleven #1 hits in two years, his films, and his glittering seasons in Vegas, and his profound lows. Most of all, we'll focus on why, 47 years after his death, Elvis Presley continues to be revered as a musical and cultural legend.
