Dr. Jacquelyn "Jackie" Bobien-Blanton will lead a presentation and discussion about reading development: who's responsible, when it begins, and how it's developed. Her newest book “It Takes a Village to Raise a Reader” emphasizes the important ecosystem that surrounds a child, which can either promote or hinder reading proficiency by third grade.
We hope you’ll attend a cozy “fireside chat” with Dr. Blanton, a local author and community member. The Montclair Public Library is one of several libraries hosting Dr. Blanton’s “Journey Towards Reading” book tour. Her book combines her research on the brain, reading, and early learning. Dr. Blanton’s goal is to help our community understand the developmental process of reading and to bust the myth that reading begins at age 5. She hopes to connect with all early childhood stakeholders because the first 5 years of life are crucial to brain development and to the building blocks for reading. Refreshments will be provided and books will be available for purchase (and, of course, a book signing)!
