Unleash your inner Broadway star! Learn to sing Stephen Sondheim! A titan in the world of musical theater, Sondheim is an award-winning composer and lyricist whose best work includes Sweeney Todd, West Side Story, Gypsy, Into the Woods, Assassin, and Passion among many other great musicals and plays.
For beginning singers who love Sondheim, this class explores material from some of his greatest works, looking at the text in depth and working on material in a fun setting. All students will be asked to bring a song of their choice to the first class to workshop and perform, then will be assigned one to two songs to learn and perform using the same techniques.
Three classes of workshop and rehearsal will take place at the Montclair Public Library. The final class is a performance at the Vanguard Theater in Montclair (guests welcome!). All students will leave with videotapes of their performance.
