A free outdoor concert (or inside the Bellevue Avenue Branch in case of rain).
Elle Zambarano and Jamie Goodson, two powerhouse young singers, accompany themselves on acoustic guitars, belting out alternatives to the national anthem that have been proposed over the years (The Power and the Glory by Phil Ochs, This Land is Your Land by Woody Guthrie, Lift Every Voice and Sing) as well as other pop and folk songs such as America by Paul Simon.
Steve Golin, history professor emeritus of Bloomfield College and one of the Adult School's most popular teachers, will introduce the program and briefly explain the history of questioning the national anthem and songs that represent America.
