Love graphics novels or interested in reading more? Join us for our 18+ Graphic Novel Book Club! We'll explore a new graphic novel every month to read together and then meet to discussed the book. This book club is exclusive for those 18 or older, as some materials may contain content not suitable for younger audiences. For our first book club meeting, we will be reading Ducks: Two Years in the Oil Sands by Kate Beaton. Ducks: Two Years in the Oil Sands is a New York Times Best Seller, a Canada Reads Award Winner, and one of favorite Barack Obama's favorite books of 2022! Copies of the book will be available to pick up at the BAB Library.

Book description: Before there was Kate Beaton, New York Times bestselling cartoonist of Hark! A Vagrant, there was Katie Beaton of the Cape Breton Beaton, specifically Mabou, a tight-knit seaside community where the lobster is as abundant as beaches, fiddles, and Gaelic folk songs. With the singular goal of paying off her student loans, Katie heads out west to take advantage of Alberta’s oil rush―part of the long tradition of East Coasters who seek gainful employment elsewhere when they can’t find it in the homeland they love so much. Katie encounters the harsh reality of life in the oil sands, where trauma is an everyday occurrence yet is never discussed.
