Join us as we learn and create a traditional Turkish art called Ebru!
Gloria Baltali is a highly skilled artisan of the art of water marbling, known as Ebru. Ebru is a very old tradition that started in the 14 th century in Central Asia. This Turkish art involves “drawing” on thickened water with colorful Ebru paints that float on the surface and “copying” these patterns onto special paper.
In Instanbul, where Gloria grew up, she was inspired by demonstrations of Ebru. She has studied with masters of Ebru and has been practicing and teaching Ebru for many years. Ebru is listed as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO.
This event is supported by the Folklife Center of Northern New Jersey, a co-sponsored project of the New Jersey State Council on the Arts, with partial support from the National Endowment for the Arts and Passaic County Community College.
