We are celebrating Latinx literature this month. Join us for a lively librarian-led discussion of Julia Alvarez's novel, "Afterlife". Registration is required.
Bestselling author Julia Alvarez's recent adult novel, Afterlife, centers on immigrant writer Antonia Vega. She has just transitioned to retirement when her beloved husband dies. And then more jolts: her bighearted but unstable sister disappears, and Antonia returns home one evening to find a pregnant, undocumented teenager on her doorstep. Set during these times of tribalism and distrust, this novel asks: What do we owe those in crisis in our families, including --maybe especially -- members of our human family? How do we live in a broken world without losing faith in one another or ourselves?
