TRANStory: Trans 4 Trans (T4T) Brickhouse is a poetry feature and open mic series run by Mariah Ayscue with Out Montclair. No one is sure of who threw the first brick at the Stonewall Riots. Some say a brick wasn't thrown at all. However, it has become a revolutionary object symbolizing the pivotal moment that propelled the queer liberation movement. And the queer liberation movement was lead by trans women of color. The brick is a symbol of reclaiming our narratives after so much harm done to our community. The poets of Out Montclair want to build a Brickhouse for their T4T love along with a home for them to speak their truth. Sponsored by Andrew and Xavier Van Degna.
The program is presented by Out Montclair, a nonprofit organization created to raise awareness and provide support and solidarity for the LGBTQIA+ community of Montclair. They offer educational and charitable activities and events to promote inclusivity and equality for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, non-binary and gender-fluid youth and adults. Additionally, they provide a safe space where our community and our allies can come together and celebrate who we are.
