Award-winning author Ann Patchett has written an engrossing novel set in the post World War II era in the suburbs of Philadelphia. Cyril Conroy, a successful businessman, buys a lavish estate called the Dutch House as a surprise for his wife. The narrator is Danny Conroy along with his sister, Maeve. The house plays an integral part in the lives of the Conroy family. The novel asks the reader to grapple with questions of inheritance, love, forgiveness, how we like to see ourselves and who we truly are.
