This brief introduction to apiculture will highlight the role of the honeybee in society and farming while providing an overview of the honeybee colony. We will discuss how to start with bees, seasonal hive management, nectar flow and the harvesting of hive products (honey, beeswax, propolis). We will also talk about beekeeping tools, equipment, and protective gear.
There will be one evening classroom session, and a separate visit to the hives at Montclair Community Gardens for a live demonstration in the field. Instructor: James Feeney
