Drag has a long and often embattled history. This multimedia presentation explores male and female impersonations' glittering pasts from ancient times through vaudeville and RuPaul to today's controversies.
Joe E. Jeffreys is a drag historian. He teaches LGBTQ+ and theatre studies courses at New York University and The New School. He has published on the history of male and female impersonation in encyclopedias, academic journals and essay anthologies and the popular press. He also video documents drag performance and this work has screened at galleries and museums internationally.
