Julian Barnes, Booker Prize-winning author, offers historical fiction dedicated to the composer Dmitri Shostakovich. In 1936 Russia, Shostakovich, just thirty fears for his livelihood and his life. During the Great Purge, Stalin has taken an interest in Shostakovich's work. He is coerced into joining the Party and to continue appeasing those in power. How will Shostakovich survive? Will he able to continue his career?
