Learn about the meaning of Kwanzaa in this annual community celebration.
Witness the ceremonial Pouring of Libations, and learn about the meaning and seven principles of the singular African-American celebration known as Kwanzaa. Afterwards, Usaama Dance Company (the youth arm of Umoja Dance Company) performs riveting African Dance in honor of this important celebration. First come-first served seating, auditorium capacity is 100.
Usaama ("precious" in Swahili) is a pre-professional performing company founded in 1995 by Ujmoja Dance Company that strives to give today's youth a sense of pride. The company introduces aspiring young dancers into the world of dance, performance and assisting in developing self-esteem, and respect for the arts. Usaama is dedicated to the preservation of African dance and song, as well as encouraging respect for elders, and the community.
