The lecture explores the unique imagery of Dorothea Lange, one of the most profound American documentary photographers. During the presentation we will discuss the photographer’s most iconic works and the impact they had on their viewers both during the time when they were created and present day. The 1939 publication An American Exodus, the product of a collaboration between Lange and her husband, Paul Taylor who provided the text for the photobook, will be the central focus of the presentation. In addition, we will look at Lange’s less known works, including her street photographs and projects on social justice.
