The Montclair Public Library, Temple Ner Tamid and Congregation Shomrei Emunah will screen the award-winning documentary Four Winters to commemorate Holocaust Remembrance Day. The film is co-sponsored by Bnai Keshet of Montclair and Temple Sholom of West Essex. The event is free but registration is required.

Four Winters: A Story of Jewish Partisan Resistance and Bravery in WW2 (2022) tells the remarkable stories of some of the 25,000 Jewish partisans who fought back against the Nazis and their collaborators from deep within the forests of WWII’s Eastern Europe, Ukraine and Belarus. In their first-hand interviews, these last surviving partisans reveal a stunning narrative of heroism and resilience. The New York Times called Four Winters “an enduring warning amid today’s global struggle with authoritarian forces.” Tablet magazine described it as "A must-see Holocaust movie (no, really)...a documentary with suspense, humor, and zero sentimentality…"

Julia Mintz, the producer-director of Four Winters, is an award-winning artist and multi-grant recipient for her work in visual arts and documentary film. Mintz’s work focuses on narratives of bravery and resistance against unimaginable odds. She has been on the producing teams for films which have been shortlisted for the Academy Awards, have premiered at Cannes, Sundance and TriBeCa, and won Emmy, Peabody and festival awards. Her films can be seen on HBO, PBS, American Masters, Netflix, Amazon, and are shown on college campuses across the country.

Rabbi Marc Katz, the spiritual leader of Temple Ner Tamid, is the author of the book, The Heart of Loneliness: How Jewish Wisdom Can Help You Cope and Find Comfort,” which was a finalist for the National Jewish Book Award.  His upcoming book, Yochanan's Gamble is coming out in December. Rabbi Katz is also a judge for the National Jewish Book Awards.

Rabbi Julie Roth, who leads Congregation Shomrei Emunah, is the daughter of a Holocaust survivor and a community organizer. Formerly the Jewish Chaplain at Princeton University, she is the rabbi and co-founder of Zamru, a musically innovative, spiritually-engaging, intergenerational Friday night independent minyan which now meets monthly in both Princeton and Montclair.

Holocaust Remembrance Day marks the anniversary of the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising. The idea is to document Jewish resistance to the Nazis in World War II, how they retained their human dignity in the most unbearable conditions, and how they fought the Nazis and joined underground partisans who battled the Third Reich in occupied countries.
